Women Get the Vote!
100th Anniversary Commemorative Quilt

On display at the Montavilla Sewing Center, 429 First Street in Lake Oswego until August 25

The AAUW Lake Oswego Quilt celebrates the passage of the 19th Amendment and women suffrage.  Four of our members have made an amazing quilt to honor the 100th anniversary of women gaining the right to vote. Our branch is raffling it off as a fundraiser to support scholarships for women returning to school at Clackamas Community College.

This quilt takes the viewer on a tour of ten of the most influential US suffragists, including:  Lucretia Mott, Sojourner Truth, Elizabeth Cady Stanton, Lucy Stone, Frederick Douglas, Susan B. Anthony, Matilda Joslyn Gage, Abigail Scott Duniway and Alice Paul.  It also gives homage to the Iroquois women who met many of the suffragists and gave them a glimpse of a society where women had full and equal rights.

Four women of the AAUW LO Branch have created this work of art and history – three who have sewn and quilted and one who has rendered the suffragists’ quotes on the quilt in calligraphy. The quilt is approximately 51 inches wide and 64 inches long.  It can be used as a wall quilt and includes a sleeve on the back to accommodate hardware for hanging. The raffle drawing will take place on August 26, 2020
