It is odd that men feel they must protect women since for the most part they must e protected from men.
Abigail Scott Duniway

One of Oregon’s primary leaders of the suffrage movement, Scott Duniway founded a newspaper known as The New Northwest, a weekly newspaper devoted to women’s rights. She published the first issue on May 5, 1871, and continued The New Northwest for 16 years.
Duniway’s brother, Harvey Scott, also published a newspaper, The Oregonian, in which he wrote many articles opposing woman’s suffrage. In spite of his strong opposition, Abigail’s persevering attitude prevailed and women won the right to vote.
